    Memories and Tributes

  • My parents met aboard the USS. Independence while in port in Norfolk, Va. On an Independence day cruise. Dad made his home here in Hampton Roads after 1966, until his passing April 9, 2015. He was also retired from the NNSY in Portsmouth, Va.

He was so very proud of his service, continued as A VA. State American Legion officer, post commander & will later be interred in the Albert G . Horton State Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, Va. We actually have a stunning painting of the Jolly Rogers flying over the USS Independence.
