    Memories and Tributes

  • Raymond A. Wittenauer, 73, of Middleburg, Fla., born August 3, 1941, in Detroit, Mich., died Friday, May 1, 2015. Ray grew up in Belleville. He attended several parochial schools, graduating from St. Luke School and St. Henry Prep. He joined the Navy in November 1960, and retired from the Naval Reserve in 1993. Ray had a career in the Civil Service in Florida, retiring after 24 years of service. He was active in the Knights of Columbus, becoming a Fourth Degree Knight and Grand Knight. He was a longtime softball coach in the Bel-Med Athletic Association in the Jacksonville/Orange Park, Fla. Area. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Linda Wittenauer in 2010; and his parents, Ray and Angie, nee Muckensturm, Wittenauer. Surviving are his wife, Samantha I. Wittenauer; three daughters, Mary Gibbens, Barbara (Art) Friedman, and Linda Mendillo; 12 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Also surviving are four brothers, Richard (Danna), James (Marrian), Kenneth, and Steve (Patti) Wittenauer; four sisters, Sharon (Larry) Webb, Bonnie (Ron) Sietzel, Kathy Wittenauer, and Edith (Al) Blaylock; and many nieces and nephews.Funeral: Ray's life was celebrated at a mass on May 5, 2015, at St. Luke Catholic Church, Middleburg, Fla.He was interred with military honors at Jacksonville Memory Gardens
