- Capt. Cole Black- was a VFP-62 pilot and also a POW for several years, was killed in a plane crash November 2007. He was a passenger in a Piper Aerostar. He was CO of a Squadron (possibly the F-14 RAG) at Miramar in the 70's

Died: approximately late 1957 - early 1958. He was trapped between an NC 5 and a TV2 on the ramp at VFP 62 line. The transmission engaged and jumped the chocks pinning him between the unit and the plane. His death led to the procedure change that two men would always be on hand to operate the NC 5 one to plug in and operate electrical generator panel and the other to stay in the driver seat on brakes during hight power running.
